Flat Battery in a Hospital Car Park? Brisbane & Gold Coast

Hospital car parks are a common place for a battery to give up. Families sit with loved ones for days, patients are admitted unexpectedly and leave the car where it is, and nurses and doctors park for 12-hour shifts. When you finally get back to the car, tired and stressed, a flat battery is the last thing you need.

Why Cars Go Flat at Hospitals

It's usually one of three things. The car has sat for days while someone was in hospital. A light was left on in the rush to get inside. Or the battery was already getting old and a long wait was enough to tip it over. Multi-storey car parks don't help either: most trips in and out are short, so the battery rarely gets a proper recharge.

Major Hospital Car Parks We Get to

Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital, Herston

RBWH doesn't offer free visitor parking on the grounds. Metro North Health lists several paid car parks around the campus, including the Butterfield Street car park (P1), the closest to the main entrance, and the Northern car park (P2) off Kauri Pine Street. There are also car parks on Herston Road and Bramston Terrace. We cover Herston, Kelvin Grove and Bowen Hills.

Princess Alexandra Hospital, Woolloongabba

The main visitor car park at the PA is the Wilson Parking facility at 199 Ipswich Road, with a walkway into the hospital. There's also the PA Central car park at 250 Ipswich Road. Both are multi-storey with height limits of around 2 metres. We service Woolloongabba and nearby Greenslopes.

Gold Coast University Hospital, Southport

GCUH has a multi-storey, undercover car park on Hospital Boulevard with more than 2,200 spaces, open 24 hours, with a 2.2 m height limit. We cover Southport and surrounding suburbs like Labrador.

What to Tell Us When You Call

Multi-storey car parks can be confusing to find your way around, so a few details help us get to you faster:

• The hospital and the car park name or street entrance
• Your level and bay number (a photo of the nearest sign works well)
• Your car's make and model, so we bring the right battery
• What happened when you turned the key: clicking, slow cranking or nothing at all

Hospital car parks have height limits, and some levels are tight. If there's an access issue getting to your level, we'll talk it through with you on the phone and work out the best way to reach your car.

What It Costs

Batteries start from $240 installed, including testing, fitting and recycling your old battery. Heavy-duty and 4WD batteries start from $330. Every battery comes with a 2+ year warranty, and we use a memory saver so your settings aren't lost. You pay after the job, by card, cash or EFTPOS. See our pricing page for more. There's no call-out fee when we replace your battery. A call-out fee only applies if you book us out to replace the battery and then decide not to go ahead once we've arrived.

You'll still need to pay your own parking fee to exit the car park as normal.

If You're Staying for a While

If someone is going to be in hospital for days and the car will sit, it's worth starting it or moving it every few days if you can. If the battery is more than three years old, a quick battery test can tell you whether it's likely to last.
