A dual battery system uses two batteries — a primary starter battery and a secondary auxiliary battery — connected via a DC-DC charger or voltage-sensitive relay (VSR). The starter battery cranks the engine, while the auxiliary powers accessories (fridge, lights, inverter) without risking a flat starter battery. Some vehicles like the LandCruiser 300 come with factory dual batteries, while many owners add aftermarket systems to their Rangers, HiLuxes, and Prados.
