A lot of people assume a flat battery in a car park means a tow truck. It doesn't. Most battery replacements take place right where the car is parked, and a car park bay is usually a perfectly good place to do the job. Here are the common questions we get about it.

Which Car Parks Can You Get To?

Pretty much any car park you can drive into, including:

Airport and cruise terminal car parks. Including Brisbane Airport and the cruise terminal at Luggage Point.

Do I Need to Be With the Car?

Yes, or someone with the keys needs to be. We need to open the bonnet, and on many cars we also need to start the engine to check the charging system after fitting. We can't work on a locked car.

What About Boom Gates and Security?

Most public car parks with boom gates are no problem to get into. For apartment basements, secure work car parks and gated yards, someone needs to let us in or tell building security we're coming. Sort that out when you call and the job goes much quicker.

What About Height Limits?

Many multi-storey and underground car parks have height limits of around 2 to 2.2 metres. If height or tight ramps make it hard to reach your level, tell us when you call and we'll work out the best way to get to your car with you.

What Should I Tell You When I Call?

The car park name or street address and the entrance you used
Your level, section and bay number (a photo of the nearest sign helps)
Your car's make, model and year, so we bring the right battery
What happens when you turn the key: clicking, slow cranking or nothing
Any access details, like gate codes or who to call on arrival

Is It Safe to Change a Battery in a Car Park?

Yes, when it's done properly. We work in your bay, use a memory saver so your car keeps its settings, and take the old battery away for recycling. The job usually takes well under half an hour once we're at the car.

What If It's Not the Battery?

We test first. Sometimes the battery is fine and it's the alternator or starter motor, which need a workshop. If that's the case, we'll tell you straight. Our battery or alternator guide explains the difference.

There's no call-out fee when we replace your battery. A call-out fee only applies if you book us out to replace the battery and then decide not to go ahead once we've arrived.

What It Costs

Batteries start from $240 installed, including testing, fitting and recycling. Heavy-duty and 4WD batteries start from $330. Every battery comes with a 2+ year warranty, and you pay after the job by card, cash or EFTPOS. There's no after-hours surcharge. Your own parking fee is still yours to pay when you drive out.
